Centrosomes: Hooked on the Nucleus
A recent study has shown that the Hook protein ZYG-12 of Caenorhabditis elegans is essential for attachment of the centrosome to the nucleus. The results suggest a novel mechanism for the tight coupling between these two organelles, and shed new light on its biological significance.

Examination was made of 750 scapular dry bone specimens from museum collections and 80 cadaver shoulders. Hooking of the acromion was not found in subjects under the age of 30 years. The hooked configuration developed at later ages in an increasing proportion of subjects as a result of calcification of the acromial attachment of the coracoacromial ligament.

The dopaminergic D3 receptor (D3R) is emerging as an antagonist of sensitized behavior induced by addictive drugs such as cocaine. New work by Wang and coworkers in this issue of Neuron now identifies CaMKII as an important negative regulator of the D3R. CaMKII relieves the D3R-mediated inhibition on sensitized behavior to foster drug-seeking behavior.
